Course Overview
Our Texas Grade 7 Social Studies course is designed according to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) standards. The curriculum focuses on Texas History, helping students understand the state's geography, Native American cultures, European exploration, independence, government, economy, and role in the United States.

Geography of Texas
Physical Geography
Students explore Texas' landforms, rivers, mountains, coastal plains, climate regions, and natural resources.
Human Geography
Students study population distribution, major cities, transportation, industries, agriculture, and urban development across Texas.
Map Skills
Students strengthen map-reading skills using latitude, longitude, scale, compass directions, political maps, and physical maps.
Natural Resources
Students learn how oil, natural gas, agriculture, water resources, and renewable energy contribute to Texas' economy.
The Four Regions of Texas
Students compare the Coastal Plains, North Central Plains, Great Plains, and Mountains and Basins regions. They explain how each region's geography shaped settlement.
Geographic Data & Tools
Students interpret charts, graphs, and thematic maps about Texas population and climate. They use geographic data to answer questions about the state.
Native Americans & Early Texas
Native American Tribes
Students study the cultures, traditions, lifestyles, and contributions of Native American tribes that lived in Texas.

European Exploration

Regional Native Cultures

La Salle & French Texas
Students study La Salle's expedition and the short-lived French presence at Fort St. Louis. They explain how it pushed Spain to strengthen its claim to Texas.
Cultural Exchange & Conflict
Students examine trade, cooperation, and conflict between Native peoples and European newcomers. They analyze how these interactions changed life in early Texas.
Colonization & Independence
Spanish Missions
Students explore the establishment of Spanish missions, settlements, and their influence on Texas culture.
Mexican Texas
Students study the period when Texas became part of Mexico, including colonization and settlement by empresarios.
Texas Revolution

Republic of Texas

Empresarios & Austin's Colony
Students study Stephen F. Austin, the Old Three Hundred, and the empresario system. They explain why settlers came to Mexican Texas and where they settled.
The Alamo, Goliad & San Jacinto
Students examine the defining battles of the Texas Revolution in depth. They evaluate the choices of leaders such as Sam Houston, William B. Travis, and Juan Seguín.
Texas Joins the United States

Civil War & Reconstruction
