New York Hindi — Grade 2

Comprehensive Course Syllabus

Course Overview

Our New York Grade 2 Hindi course is built around the New York State Learning Standards for World Languages, which emphasise Interpretive, Interpersonal, and Presentational communication together with cultural understanding. Beginners are welcome with appropriate foundational support.

Grade 2 builds on Grade 1 foundations. Children consolidate देवनागरी reading and writing, meet conjunct letters, and progress from words and phrases to sentences and short paragraphs. Writing develops from copying and dictation to guided and independent writing.

Seven themed vocabulary modules cover family, school, daily activities, food and health, nature and environment, animals and birds, and community places. Grammar extends to संज्ञा (nouns), लिंग (gender), plurals, सर्वनाम (pronouns), क्रिया (verbs), काल (tenses), and विशेषण (adjectives).

Children also develop reading comprehension, enjoy Hindi stories, poems, and songs, write creatively, hold real-life conversations, and explore Indian culture and traditions. The year ends with a Hindi project and portfolio.

Standards Note

New York State uses the New York State Learning Standards for World Languages.

These standards emphasise Interpretive, Interpersonal, and Presentational communication, along with cultural understanding, connections to other subjects, comparisons among languages and cultures, and participation in communities.

New York State does not require every school to offer Hindi, nor to follow one identical Hindi syllabus. Schools and districts may organise instruction, pacing, materials, and proficiency expectations differently.

It is important to distinguish between the New York State learning standards, which define expected communication and cultural skills, and the course structure created for this educational programme, which organises that content into modules and topics.

This syllabus therefore represents a Grade 2 Hindi / World Language pathway designed to support New York State expectations, suitable for continuing learners, heritage learners, and beginners with appropriate support.
