Comprehensive Course Syllabus
Course Overview
Our New Jersey Grade 8 Hindi course is designed as a World Language / Heritage Language enrichment program aligned with the New Jersey Student Learning Standards for World Languages (NJSLS-WL) for the Grades 6–8 proficiency band.
New Jersey’s World Languages standards are organized primarily by language proficiency levels rather than by individual grade, so Grade 8 Hindi instruction can be structured around progressively developing listening, speaking, reading, writing, cultural understanding, and interpersonal communication skills. The state framework emphasizes communication in interpretive, interpersonal, and presentational modes, along with connections, comparisons, and community participation.
Advanced Hindi Reading Skills
Reading Comprehension
Students read age-appropriate Hindi passages and identify the main idea, supporting details, sequence, and important information.
Literary Reading
Students read short stories, poems, dialogues, essays, and other age-appropriate Hindi literary texts.
Informational Reading
Students read informational passages about people, places, culture, science, environment, and everyday life.
Main Idea & Supporting Details
Students identify the central idea of a passage and distinguish important supporting information from minor details.
Inference
Students use information from a passage and contextual clues to understand ideas that are not directly stated.
Hindi Vocabulary Development
Everyday Vocabulary
Students expand vocabulary related to school, family, home, community, hobbies, travel, food, and daily activities.
Academic Vocabulary
Students develop Hindi vocabulary used for academic subjects, explanations, discussions, and written assignments.
Synonyms
Students identify and use words with similar meanings to improve vocabulary and writing variety.
Antonyms
Students learn words with opposite meanings and use them appropriately in sentences.
Homonyms & Multiple-Meaning Words
Students identify Hindi words that have similar forms or multiple meanings and determine meaning from context.
Hindi Grammar – Intermediate Level
Nouns
Students review noun types, gender, number, and appropriate usage in increasingly complex sentences.
Pronouns
Students use personal, demonstrative, interrogative, possessive, and other common pronouns correctly.
Adjectives
Students use descriptive words and correctly match adjectives with the nouns they describe.
Verbs
Students identify and use Hindi verbs accurately in different contexts and sentence structures.
Adverbs
Students use adverbs to describe how, when, where, or to what extent an action occurs.
Hindi Verb Tenses
Present Tense
Students describe current actions, regular activities, habits, and general situations.
Past Tense
Students describe completed and ongoing past actions using appropriate Hindi structures.
Future Tense
Students express future plans, predictions, intentions, and possibilities.
Continuous Forms
Students describe actions that are or were continuing at a particular time.
Perfect Forms
Students describe completed actions and their relationship to another time or situation.
Hindi Sentence Construction
Simple Sentences
Students construct grammatically correct sentences using appropriate word order and agreement.
Compound Sentences
Students combine two or more related ideas using appropriate conjunctions.
Complex Sentences
Students create sentences containing dependent and independent ideas to express more sophisticated relationships.
Question Formation
Students form questions using appropriate question words such as कौन, क्या, कब, कहाँ, क्यों, कैसे.
Negative Sentences
Students correctly form negative statements and questions using appropriate Hindi structures.

Paragraph Writing
Students write organized Hindi paragraphs with a clear topic, supporting details, and conclusion.
Descriptive Writing
Students describe people, places, objects, experiences, and events using precise vocabulary.
Narrative Writing
Students write short stories and personal narratives with characters, events, sequence, and meaningful conclusions.
Informative Writing
Students explain a topic using facts, descriptions, examples, and organized information.
