Comprehensive Course Syllabus
Course Overview
Our New Jersey Grade 7 Hindi course is designed as a middle-school Hindi language and cultural enrichment program aligned with the 2020 New Jersey Student Learning Standards for World Languages (NJSLS-WL).
New Jersey’s World Languages standards are organized by proficiency levels and grade bands, with Grades 6–8 forming one band rather than prescribing a separate statewide Hindi syllabus for each grade. The standards emphasize Interpretive, Interpersonal, and Presentational communication, together with cultural understanding, language comparisons, connections to other subjects, and communication within communities. Grade 7 Hindi builds on foundational language skills and moves students toward stronger Novice High / Intermediate Low communication, depending on prior Hindi experience.
Hindi Conversation & Interpersonal Communication
Personal Conversations
Students communicate about themselves, family, interests, experiences, goals, preferences, and personal activities using connected Hindi sentences.
School & Academic Conversations
Students discuss school subjects, assignments, examinations, teachers, classmates, activities, schedules, and academic interests.
Asking Follow-Up Questions
Students ask and answer questions and use follow-up questions to maintain conversations on familiar topics.
Expressing Opinions
Students express opinions, preferences, agreement, disagreement, emotions, and supporting reasons in Hindi.
Everyday Transactions
Students practice Hindi for practical situations such as shopping, ordering food, asking for directions, making appointments, and using transportation.
Devanagari Reading & Writing
Advanced Devanagari Reading
Students improve reading fluency with longer words, संयुक्त अक्षर, complex मात्रा combinations, and age-appropriate passages.
Hindi Spelling
Students identify common spelling patterns and accurately write increasingly complex Hindi vocabulary.
Dictation
Students listen to words, phrases, sentences, and short passages and reproduce them accurately in Devanagari.
Paragraph Writing
Students write organized paragraphs with a clear beginning, supporting details, connected ideas, and an appropriate conclusion.
Practical Writing
Students write messages, notes, invitations, emails, letters, announcements, and other everyday forms of communication.
Hindi Vocabulary Development
Family & Relationships
Students expand vocabulary related to family structures, relationships, friendship, emotions, responsibilities, and social interactions.
School & Education
Students learn vocabulary related to academic subjects, learning activities, examinations, technology, projects, and future educational goals.
Food & Cooking
Students develop vocabulary related to ingredients, meals, cooking methods, restaurants, nutrition, and food preferences.
Health & Wellness
Students learn Hindi vocabulary related to body parts, health, exercise, nutrition, healthy habits, and common health situations.
Travel & Transportation
Students learn vocabulary for destinations, transportation, directions, tickets, hotels, travel planning, and tourism.

संज्ञा (Nouns)
Students identify and correctly use nouns for people, places, objects, animals, and abstract concepts.
सर्वनाम (Pronouns)
Students use personal, demonstrative, interrogative, relative, and other common pronouns in increasingly complex sentences.
लिंग (Gender)
Students identify masculine and feminine nouns and apply appropriate grammatical agreement.
वचन (Number)
Students correctly use singular and plural forms in different sentence structures.
विशेषण (Adjectives)
Students use descriptive and quantitative adjectives while maintaining appropriate grammatical agreement.
Hindi Tenses & Sentence Structures
Present Tense
Students describe current activities, routines, habits, facts, and ongoing situations.
Past Tense
Students describe completed actions, past experiences, events, and activities using appropriate Hindi structures.
Future Tense
Students discuss plans, intentions, predictions, expectations, and future activities.
Perfect & Progressive Forms
Students develop an understanding of commonly used Hindi perfect and progressive constructions in meaningful contexts.
Auxiliary Verbs
Students use forms such as है, हैं, था, थी, थे, रहा है, रही है, रहे हैं, होगा, होगी, होंगे appropriately.
Hindi Reading Comprehension
Literary Texts
Students read age-appropriate Hindi stories, poems, dialogues, biographies, and other literary selections.
Informational Texts
Students read Hindi passages about science, history, geography, environment, technology, culture, and everyday life.
Main Idea & Supporting Details
Students identify the central idea and explain how supporting details develop the message of a passage.
Inference
Students use textual clues and background knowledge to make reasonable conclusions about a text.
Author’s Purpose
Students identify whether a text is intended to inform, describe, explain, entertain, persuade, or communicate another purpose.

Listening for Details
Students identify specific information such as names, dates, numbers, locations, actions, and reasons.
Pronunciation & Fluency
Students improve pronunciation, rhythm, intonation, sentence flow, and natural conversational fluency.
Role-Play
Students participate in realistic Hindi situations involving school, family, shopping, travel, restaurants, and community life.
Story Retelling
Students listen to or read a story and retell its major events using logically connected sentences.

Students read, interpret, recite, and discuss Hindi poems while developing vocabulary and expressive language skills.
