Comprehensive Course Syllabus
Course Overview
Our New Jersey Grade 6 Hindi course is designed as a structured middle-school Hindi language and cultural enrichment program aligned with the New Jersey Student Learning Standards for World Languages (NJSLS-WL).
New Jersey’s World Languages standards are organized by proficiency levels and grade bands, with Grades 6–8 forming one band rather than prescribing a separate statewide Hindi syllabus for each grade. The standards emphasize three modes of communication: Interpretive, Interpersonal, and Presentational, together with cultural understanding, comparisons, connections, and community participation. Grade 6 Hindi therefore focuses on moving students toward stronger Novice High / early Intermediate communication, depending on their prior Hindi experience.
Hindi Communication & Conversation
Personal & Family Conversations
Students communicate about themselves, family members, relationships, interests, routines, and personal experiences using complete Hindi sentences.
School & Community Conversations
Students discuss school subjects, teachers, classmates, activities, neighborhoods, community places, and everyday experiences.
Asking & Answering Questions
Students use question words such as क्या, कौन, कहाँ, कब, क्यों, कैसे, कितना, कितने to ask and answer increasingly detailed questions.
Expressing Opinions
Students express preferences, opinions, agreement, disagreement, feelings, and simple reasons in Hindi.
Practical Conversations
Students practice Hindi for everyday situations such as shopping, restaurants, travel, appointments, directions, and making requests.
Devanagari Reading & Writing
Devanagari Fluency
Students strengthen reading and writing skills involving vowels, consonants, मात्रा, संयुक्त अक्षर, and common spelling patterns.
Complex Word Reading
Students read longer words containing multiple syllables, difficult मात्रा combinations, and संयुक्त अक्षर.
Hindi Spelling
Students recognize common spelling patterns and accurately write increasingly complex Hindi vocabulary.
Dictation
Students listen to words, phrases, and sentences and reproduce them accurately in Devanagari.
Paragraph Writing
Students write organized Hindi paragraphs with connected sentences, appropriate vocabulary, and logical sequencing.

Family & Relationships
Students expand vocabulary related to family members, relatives, friendship, relationships, emotions, and social interaction.
School & Education
Students learn vocabulary related to classes, subjects, assignments, examinations, teachers, books, technology, and school activities.
Food & Nutrition
Students develop vocabulary related to meals, ingredients, fruits, vegetables, spices, cooking, restaurants, and healthy eating.
Health & Wellness
Students learn Hindi vocabulary related to body parts, common health concerns, exercise, healthy habits, and personal well-being.
Travel & Transportation
Students learn vocabulary related to transportation, directions, destinations, tickets, hotels, travel plans, and tourism.
Hindi Grammar
संज्ञा (Nouns)
Students identify and correctly use nouns for people, places, objects, animals, and abstract ideas.
सर्वनाम (Pronouns)
Students use personal, demonstrative, interrogative, and other common pronouns appropriately in spoken and written Hindi.
लिंग (Gender)
Students identify masculine and feminine nouns and apply appropriate grammatical agreement.
वचन (Singular & Plural)
Students use singular and plural forms accurately in different sentence structures.
विशेषण (Adjectives)
Students use descriptive adjectives and apply appropriate agreement when describing people, objects, places, and situations.
Hindi Verb Tenses & Sentence Formation
Present Tense
Students describe current actions, routines, habits, and ongoing activities using appropriate Hindi structures.
Past Tense
Students describe completed actions, past experiences, events, and activities using age-appropriate past-tense structures.
Future Tense
Students discuss plans, intentions, predictions, and future activities.
Verb Agreement
Students practice appropriate verb forms based on subject, gender, number, and grammatical context.
Auxiliary Verbs
Students use common forms such as है, हैं, था, थी, थे, होगा, होगी, होंगे in increasingly complex sentences.
Hindi Reading Comprehension
Literary Passages
Students read age-appropriate Hindi stories, poems, dialogues, and other literary texts.
Informational Texts
Students read Hindi passages about science, history, geography, culture, technology, nature, and everyday topics.
Main Idea & Supporting Details
Students identify the central idea of a passage and locate important details that support it.
Sequencing
Students identify the correct sequence of events, instructions, processes, and ideas.
Inference
Students use information from a passage and contextual clues to make reasonable conclusions.

Descriptive Writing
Students describe people, places, objects, animals, experiences, and events using precise Hindi vocabulary.
Personal Writing
Students write about family, school, hobbies, experiences, interests, goals, and daily life.
Narrative Writing
Students write short Hindi stories with characters, settings, events, dialogue, and conclusions.
Picture Composition
Students interpret a picture or visual scene and develop an organized written description.
Informative Writing
Students write short explanatory passages about familiar topics such as science, nature, culture, technology, or daily life.
Hindi Listening & Speaking
Listening for Main Ideas
Students listen to conversations, stories, announcements, instructions, and descriptions and identify the main information.
Listening for Details
Students identify specific facts, names, numbers, locations, actions, and other details from spoken Hindi.
Pronunciation & Intonation
Students improve pronunciation, rhythm, stress, sentence flow, and natural expression while speaking Hindi.
Role-Play
Students participate in realistic Hindi conversations involving school, shopping, travel, restaurants, family, and community situations.
Story Retelling
Students listen to or read a story and retell the important events in logical sequence.

Students learn common Hindi मुहावरे और लोकोक्तियाँ and understand their meanings and appropriate usage.

Hindi Projects & Enrichment
Hindi Research Project
Students research an Indian state, city, festival, historical site, personality, cultural tradition, or social topic using Hindi and age-appropriate sources.
Creative Story Project
Students write, illustrate, and present an original Hindi story using developed characters, setting, events, and dialogue.
Cultural Presentation
Students prepare a Hindi presentation about an Indian cultural topic using pictures, vocabulary, written information, and spoken language.
Hindi Newspaper Project
Students create a simple Hindi newspaper containing short articles, headlines, cultural information, interviews, or creative writing.

Students maintain a portfolio containing reading passages, writing samples, vocabulary, grammar exercises, projects, presentations, and assessments.
