Comprehensive Course Syllabus
Course Overview
Our New Jersey Grade 3 Hindi course is designed as a beginner/heritage-language enrichment program aligned with the New Jersey Student Learning Standards for World Languages (NJSLS-WL). New Jersey’s World Languages standards are proficiency-based and organized by grade bands rather than by individual language, allowing Hindi to be offered as a world language or heritage language.
Grade 3 focuses on moving students from memorized words and phrases toward short conversations, connected sentences, reading comprehension, Devanagari writing, vocabulary development, basic grammar, cultural understanding, and simple presentations.
Hindi Communication
Greetings & Introductions
Students practice greetings, introductions, and simple conversations about their name, age, school, family, interests, and daily life.
Everyday Conversations
Students participate in short conversations about familiar topics such as school, family, food, hobbies, friends, weather, and activities.
Asking & Answering Questions
Students ask and answer simple questions using common Hindi question words such as क्या, कौन, कहाँ, कब, क्यों, कैसे.
Expressing Likes & Dislikes
Students learn to express preferences using simple Hindi sentences about food, sports, hobbies, colors, animals, and activities.
Classroom Communication
Students understand and use common Hindi instructions, requests, questions, and expressions used during classroom activities.
Devanagari Reading & Writing
Hindi Alphabet Review
Students strengthen recognition, pronunciation, and writing of Hindi vowels and consonants.
मात्रा Mastery
Students practice using common मात्रा correctly while reading and writing increasingly complex Hindi words.
संयुक्त अक्षर
Students are introduced to commonly used संयुक्त अक्षर and learn to recognize them in familiar words.
Word Formation
Students combine letters, मात्रा, and संयुक्त अक्षर to read and write longer Hindi words.
Devanagari Handwriting
Students improve letter formation, spacing, alignment, spelling, and overall handwriting fluency.
Hindi Vocabulary Development
Family & Relationships
Students expand vocabulary related to family members, relatives, friends, relationships, and personal connections.
School & Education
Students learn vocabulary related to classrooms, subjects, teachers, homework, books, examinations, and school activities.
Food & Meals
Students learn names of common Indian and international foods, fruits, vegetables, snacks, meals, and beverages.
Clothes & Appearance
Students learn vocabulary for clothing, colors, body features, and simple descriptions of appearance.
Places & Transportation
Students learn Hindi vocabulary for homes, schools, markets, parks, cities, roads, buses, trains, cars, and other common places and transportation.

Hindi Numbers
Students practice Hindi numbers and use them to discuss quantities, age, dates, prices, and everyday situations.
Days, Months & Dates
Students learn days of the week, months, dates, and simple expressions related to calendars.
Telling Time
Students practice expressing basic times and discussing daily schedules using Hindi vocabulary.
Daily Routines
Students describe activities such as waking up, getting ready, attending school, eating, studying, playing, and sleeping.
Weather & Seasons
Students describe common weather conditions and learn vocabulary related to seasons, temperature, rain, sunshine, and wind.
Basic Hindi Grammar
संज्ञा (Nouns)
Students identify and use nouns for people, animals, places, objects, and ideas in simple Hindi sentences.
सर्वनाम (Pronouns)
Students use common pronouns such as मैं, हम, तुम, आप, यह, वह, ये, वे correctly in familiar contexts.
क्रिया (Verbs)
Students learn frequently used Hindi verbs and practice using them to describe actions and daily activities.
लिंग (Gender)
Students identify masculine and feminine forms of commonly used Hindi nouns and practice appropriate word usage.
एकवचन एवं बहुवचन
Students distinguish between singular and plural forms and use them correctly in simple sentences.
Hindi Sentence Formation
Simple Sentence Patterns
Students construct meaningful Hindi sentences using familiar vocabulary and basic grammatical structures.
Positive & Negative Sentences
Students form affirmative and negative sentences using common expressions such as हाँ, नहीं, है, नहीं है.
Question Formation
Students construct simple questions and provide appropriate responses in familiar situations.
Sentence Expansion
Students expand short sentences by adding adjectives, locations, time expressions, and additional information.
Sentence Ordering
Students arrange words and phrases into grammatically meaningful Hindi sentences.

Reading Short Passages
Students read short Hindi passages containing familiar vocabulary and identify important information.
Main Idea & Details
Students identify the main idea and supporting details in age-appropriate Hindi texts.
Question & Answer Reading
Students read questions and locate relevant information in a passage to provide appropriate answers.
Sequencing Events
Students identify and arrange events from a story or passage in the correct order.
Picture-Based Reading
Students use pictures, illustrations, and contextual clues to understand unfamiliar parts of simple Hindi texts.

Students write grammatically meaningful Hindi sentences about familiar people, places, objects, and activities.
Guided Paragraph Writing
Students write short paragraphs using a clear sequence of connected sentences.
Picture Composition
Students observe a picture and write several Hindi sentences describing people, actions, objects, and surroundings.

Students write short descriptions about themselves, their family, school, hobbies, friends, and interests.
Short Creative Writing
Students create simple stories, descriptions, or imaginative pieces using familiar Hindi vocabulary.

Students listen to short conversations, instructions, stories, and descriptions and identify important information.
Pronunciation
Students improve pronunciation, word stress, rhythm, and natural intonation while speaking Hindi.
Picture-Based Speaking
Students describe pictures and scenes using complete Hindi sentences.
Role-Play Conversations
Students participate in practical role plays involving school, shopping, family, restaurants, travel, and everyday situations.
Short Presentations
Students prepare and deliver short Hindi presentations on familiar topics such as family, hobbies, school, animals, or festivals.

Students read and listen to age-appropriate Hindi stories and identify characters, settings, events, and messages.
Story Retelling
Students retell familiar stories using connected sentences and appropriate sequence words.
Story Sequencing
Students arrange events in chronological order and explain what happened first, next, and last.
Hindi Poems & Rhymes
Students read and recite age-appropriate Hindi poems and rhymes to improve vocabulary, pronunciation, rhythm, and expression.
Moral Stories
Students explore simple Hindi stories that communicate values such as honesty, kindness, cooperation, courage, and responsibility.

Indian Festivals
Students explore festivals such as Diwali, Holi, Dussehra, Raksha Bandhan, Janmashtami, and Makar Sankranti through stories and activities.
Indian Food & Traditions
Students learn Hindi vocabulary related to Indian food, meals, clothing, family traditions, and cultural practices.

Hindi Vocabulary Games

Hindi Presentation Project
Students prepare a short presentation using pictures, vocabulary, sentences, and simple spoken Hindi.
