Comprehensive Course Syllabus
Course Overview
Our Illinois Grade 3 Hindi course moves students from reading words to reading passages and writing paragraphs. It reviews the Devanagari alphabet, then builds reading fluency, accurate writing, and clear pronunciation, including a first look at conjunct letters (संयुक्त अक्षर).
Six vocabulary modules cover everyday words, numbers to 100 with time and calendar, family and relationships, school and classroom, food and daily life, and colours, shapes, and descriptions — each taught in full sentences.
The grammar strand is the most substantial yet: nouns (संज्ञा), pronouns (सर्वनाम), gender (लिंग), number (वचन), adjectives (विशेषण), verbs (क्रिया), the three tenses, and postpositions (परसर्ग), applied in sentence formation and question work.
The literacy strand covers conversation, reading comprehension with inference, Hindi stories including folk tales, poetry, grammar in context, spelling and dictation, creative writing, and paragraph writing (अनुच्छेद लेखन).
The course closes with listening and speaking skills, Indian culture and traditions, festivals, folklore including Panchatantra tales, and Hindi projects, before a full year-end review.

Teaching Methodology

Standards Note
This syllabus is offered as a Hindi language, literacy, and cultural enrichment programme for students in Illinois, broadly informed by the Illinois Learning Standards for Foreign Languages, which describe expectations for communication, culture, and language proficiency rather than prescribing content for any particular language.
Hindi is not a mandatory subject in Illinois schools. Schools and districts differ in which world languages they offer and at what grade level. Families seeking formal world language credit, or the Illinois State Seal of Biliteracy in later years, should confirm requirements with their own school or district.
Illinois does not prescribe a single Hindi textbook, curriculum sequence, pacing guide, or assessment system. This is not the only Grade 3 Hindi syllabus available, and other programmes may organise content differently.
The course assumes Grade 2 Hindi or equivalent exposure. Students who already speak Hindi at home will focus more on reading, writing, and formal grammar; students newer to the language receive additional script and vocabulary support.
Cultural content covering Indian traditions, food, clothing, music, dance, art, and folklore is presented factually and inclusively as cultural and historical information, not devotionally. The festivals module deliberately includes celebrations from several communities across India, reflecting the country’s religious and regional diversity.
It is important to distinguish between the Illinois world language learning standards and the Hindi course structure created for this educational programme, which organises language learning into a month-by-month teaching sequence.
