Comprehensive Course Syllabus
Course Overview
California Grade 5 English builds advanced reading, writing, language, vocabulary, speaking, listening, and research skills. Students learn to read increasingly complex literature and informational texts, support ideas with evidence, write organized and detailed responses, communicate effectively, and use language precisely. Vocabulary Through Word Parts
Students use common roots and affixes to understand unfamiliar words and expand their vocabulary.

Students develop accurate, expressive, and appropriately paced reading to support deeper comprehension.
Context-Based Word Recognition
Students use surrounding text to confirm word meanings and self-correct when reading.

Students build stamina and confidence while reading grade-level texts independently and with clear purpose.
